Badge of honour: Guppy likes the new look

CRAIG GUPWELL reckons Newmains United have a badge to be proud of.

The Central District Second Division side unveiled their new crest this week.

They held a competition for local school kids to come up with a fresh emblem following their merger with Carluke FC.

Newmains primary pupil Bethany Williamson’s drawing was chosen as the winner.

Now graphic designer Andrew Gupwell has turned her drawing into the version which will adorn the first team jerseys this season.

The circular design boasts a thistle with a football as its head on a white background, surrounded by a red frame with light blue edging.

Local Indian restaurant Pink has already agreed a deal to sponsor the club’s home shirt and will have their logo emblazoned below the revamped badge.

Co-manager Gupwell – taking time out from pre-season preparations – said: “We were really impressed with Bethany’s work as soon as we saw it.

“But looking at the logo for real earlier this week was an exciting moment for everyone involved at the club.

“The vibrant colours matched with the football as the head of the thistle really separate it from other crests.

“We can’t wait to see it on the strips when the new season starts – and we’ll be full of pride when we walk out wearing it.”
