NEWMAINS UNITED have been growing on and off the park.

Now they’ve teamed up with a leading ground maintenance specialist to help them bloom even more.

Keith Gallacher owns successful Complete Weed Control franchises in the south east and south west of Scotland.

The company will help the club maintain their pitch this season while also using it as a base for training new apprentices.

Gallacher admits he was keen to get involved with a club that shares his vision to aim high.

He said: “Our business is constantly growing and we have a very good relationship with our clients. We’ve had some of them for more than ten years and they always come back to us.

“I’d like the relationship between my company and the club to continue in the same way. It’s not just a one-off.

“I discussed this with Paul and we also spoke about using the ground as a place to help train apprentices in a fine turf environment as opposed to them going straight onto a customer’s site.”

Work has been going on at United’s Victoria Park pitch since the end of the season.

Gallacher continued that by spraying the surface recently.

The linkup came after an unplanned meeting with United co-manager Paul Davies.

Gallacher said: “Through a bit of networking and a chance meeting I spoke to Paul.

“He mentioned he was a part of Newmains United and we had done a lot of work in the area in the past.

“When Paul told me what the club was about and what they wanted to achieve I saw something I liked and wanted to be a part of.”

Gallacher’s franchises don’t only focus on weed control. They also provide a number of services which range from ground maintenance to landscaping and gritting and snow clearance in the winter.

The parent company as a whole does a lot of work for Premier League football teams and have carried out work at places like Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge and the Celtic Manor resort in Newport.

He added: “We’ve had subcontract work at Murrayfield and we did some work at Motherwell’s Fir Park too. We are currently working at other sports and leisure facilities and golf courses.”

Co-boss Davies added: “We are excited to link up with someone like Keith and his company. We are looking forwards to working with him for mutual benefits.”
