EACH week our man JOSH KANE runs the rule over our opposition. This week it’s the League One side from The Showground as cup action returns…
It’s back to knockout business this weekend for Newmains as East Kilbride Thistle head to Victoria Park in the Ardagh West of Scotland Cup.
It’s been a mixed season so far for League One Jags, who are sitting in the bottom half of the table heading into the second round clash.
They have managed just two away wins in the league and have drawn four of their last five – but they’ll hope their impressive cup form can continue.
In the last round EK KO’d Championship outfit Kello Rovers after an impressive and convincing 5-1 victory at their home ground The Showpark.
But Newmains can match that achievement after eliminating Kello’s league rivals Whitletts Victoria on penalties to set up their clash.
Thistle’s top goal scorer Jonny Diack has nine goals to his name this term. He could be up against Craig Scott, who was once a teammate of the tricky striker.
Second in the scoring stakes is Craig Tocher, who has been an influential player this season. He’s netted five times with his lightening pace causing teams a host of problems.
Tocher is hoping to add to his tally at Victoria Park and said: “We drew 2-2 with Blantyre Vics last weekend but I felt we played well away from home.
“I hope we can carry that mentality into the game against Newmains.
“Everyone always wants to get as far as possible in the cup and I hope I can grab a couple of goals to help the team progress to the next round.
“But we are all aware Newmains should not be underestimated.”
Kick-off at Victoria Park is 1.30pm.
