EVERY week our man Josh Kane examines our next opponents…
“NEWMAINS are looking to make it Forth time lucky this weekend – as they hope tomorrow’s fixture doesn’t go the same way as the previous three.
“Weather has seen a hat-trick of United’s clashes on the road called off. This weekend they are back at home as they welcome Forth Wanderers to Victoria Park.
“United ran out 5-2 winners in the last encounter between the sides in August. But after a period of no games Newmains will need to be at their best to conjure up a similar scoreline.
“That clash four months ago saw United pick up their first victory in sixteen months after a ruthless second half display. Forth took the lead but an influential performance from Mikey Barton saw them run out convincing winners in the end.
“But the away side have hit a run of form recently after landing victories in two of their last three matches. Wanderers sit five points above Newmains having played one more game heading into this weekend’s clash.
“But they recently lost talisman Stephen Larkin to Carluke Rovers after he netted 12 goals this season. That has left Kris Jarvie as top scorer on six and he’ll be keen to extend his tally against United.
“Kick-off at Victoria Park is 1.45pm.”
