He’s The Stats Man: Johnstone Burgh

Each week’s JOSH KANE gives us the lowdown on our next opponents. This week he lifts the lid on today’s clash with our hosts in Renfrewshire…

“Another difficult test lies in store for Newmains United as they make the trip to Keanie Park to face Johnstone Burgh.

“The North Lanarkshire men will be looking to stretch their unbeaten league run to five games but Burgh will be determined to return to winning ways.

“The home side sit only one point behind Newmains in the league and will be keen to capitalise on the opportunity to jump above them in the table.

“Burgh’s form of late has been unconvincing to say the least, losing their last four league games and winning only once of their last nine matches.

“That’s in stark contrast from earlier in the season where they began well, winning three and drawing one of their first four league games.

“Ryan Officer is the side’s top goal scorer with ten goals from 14 appearances. The ex-St Mirren youth player will be looking to add to his tally this weekend and lift Johnstone out of their poor run of form.

“The sides met earlier this season when the Burgh narrowly edged a 2-1 win at Victoria Park. Newmains took the lead before half-time that day and if they go in front today they’ll be looking to hold on this time.

“A close and hard-fought contest is anticipated if the last fixture is anything to go by. Kick-off at Keanie Park is 2pm.”
