THIS week JOSH KANE takes a look at the side from Ayrshire bossed by a familiar face…
“A waterlogged pitch put a damp squib on Newmains’ weekend last Saturday. Now they’ll try to reign over Muirkirk as they return to action in McBookie West Region League Two.
“Thorniewood’s Robertson Park lost its battle with the elements seven days ago meaning United haven’t played for three weeks. But everyone is hoping Burnside Park stands up to the weather between now and kick-off for what is set to be a fiercely contested clash.
“Newmains are just a point behind The Kirk, who have ex-Victoria Park boss Kevin Muirhead trying to steer them back up the divisions after relegation last season.
“Muirkirk have been in good form recently and have lost only one of their last seven matches, although they also had a blank week last weekend with league opponents Lanark in Scottish Cup action.
“Newmains will have to beware the home side’s ability to fightback after they twice came from behind in their last match to beat Saltcoats Victoria 3-2. The Kirk have been regular scorers this season yet suffered a goalless draw in Saltcoats three weeks ago against the same opposition.
“That was the first time they hadn’t netted since September 22. Stephen Campbell has been one of The Kirk’s top performers, picking up two goals on their last outing and grabbing the man-of-the-match award. He is already being touted as their player of the year this season.
Kick-off at Burnside Park is 1.45pm.”
