EACH week KEVIN CRAIGENS runs his eye over the upcoming opposition. This week it’s the side from Viewpark…
THERE are double acts all round this weekend as Newmains return to Victoria Park after seven weeks away.
Like United, visitors Thorniewood will have co-managers at the helm after Jamie Nesbitt and Chris Dolan were appointed last weekend.
The pair left Royal Albert two weeks ago and were installed by the Viewpark side after James McKenna retired following 21 years in the dugout.
They take over with Wood lying eighth in West Region League Two after four wins from their last five fixtures.
Their last defeat was to Lanark United way back in January when McKenna was still at the helm.
The Wood have scored 19 goals and conceded only five in their last five games, showing how dangerous they can be when they get going.
Their top scorers this season are Gary Stewart, who leads the charts with 15, and Damon Welsh, who is just three goals behind.
Like Newmains, The Wood saw last weekend’s clash fail to beat the weather.
But they come into this Saturday’s game on the back of a 5-0 win away to Saltcoats Victoria.
Declan Brown grabbed a hat-trick in that match, with Scot Cowan and Alistair Morgan completing the rout.
United’s recent run of postponements mean they still have seven games left to play this season.
The North Lanarkshire side have scored four goals in the last five games while conceding 16 in that time.
Craig Scott and Michael Barton lead the scoring charts for United with Paul Donaghy on three.
While last week’s game at Ashfield was rained off it’s not dampened the spirits around the club.
Kick-off at Victoria Park is 2pm.
