He’s The Stats Man: Whitletts Victoria

EACH week our man JOSH KANE gives us the lowdown on our next opponents. Today it’s the free-scoring Championship team from Ayr…

“Newmains take a break from league duty today as they make the trip to the Dam Park Stadium to take on Whitletts Victoria in the first round of the Ardagh Group West of Scotland Cup.

“Knockout competitions haven’t been kind to Newmains this season and they face a tough task against a Vics side playing two divisions above them.

“The home side head into the clash as favourites and on the back of a nine goal thriller at Neilston Juniors which they won 5-4. That left them sitting in sixth spot in the Championship after some convincing performances over the course of the season including a 9-0 victory of Larkhall Thistle.

“Vics striker Adam Forsyth scored four of last week’s goals and is definitely the one to watch. The prolific talisman also notched up a hat-trick two weeks earlier in a 3-1 victory over St.Rochs as well as a double the week before against Lanark United.

“But Vics have been conceding too and they haven’t managed a clean sheet since the start of September. United will be looking to upset new Vics goalkeeper Aaron Dorigo who recently swapped wrestling – where he performed under the alias Tornado – for a spot between the posts.

“Newmains will be keen to blow away the underdog status and book their place in the next round of the competition.

“Kick-off at Dam Park in Ayr is 2pm.”
