NEWS: Football academy to kick-off in Newmains

NEWMAINS UNITED are continuing with their ambitious plans by launching a new football academy.

The Victoria Park side will begin by setting up an Under-21s side which they hope will act as the feeder team into the senior side.

They want to create a pathway from this development team into the side which currently plays in the McBookie West Region League Two side and is bossed by Paul Davies and Craig Gupwell.

Davies said: “There have been huge developments at the club over the last few weeks.

“After careful consideration the club have decided to look at forming an academy.

“From a management point of view this is fantastic, because it will allow us to bring players into an Under-21s setup with a view to them progressing into the first team.

“The plan thereafter will be to look at several age group teams. With plans in place to improve Victoria Park this is a fantastic opportunity for the club.”
