PAUL DAVIES heaped praise on Newmains as Tony Duffy’s debut double fired them to victory at Saltcoats.
United had taken a 26th minute lead through a wonder strike from Cammy Browning (sponsor: Craig Forbes Group).
But the sides headed in at half-time at Campbell Park with the scores level after The Vics took less than 60 seconds to hit back.
United showed their class after the break though to seal their third League Two win of the season.
First striker Duffy (sponsor: 2 Fast 2 Photo) – bought from Forth along with Ryan Cherrie last month – netted from the spot just after the hour.
Then he capped a man-of-the-match display by finishing for No3 with 17 minutes left.
Co-boss Davies said: “Tony had a superb debut with two goals and Cammy Browning took his chance really well.
“It was a first-class performance and the result was well deserved.”
What made the victory even more impressive was the fact United were missing EIGHT players for the clash.
Davies added: “Going into the game with so many players unavailable meant it was always going to be a tough ask but the players performed exceptionally well.
“We spoke before the game about making sure we came away with three points.
“We spoke about making sure we were satisfied with our own performances when the game finished.
“If we could answer certain questions we asked before the game I was positive we would come away with three points. To a man we did this.”
