NEWMAINS UNITED are the home side this weekend but they are entering new territory when the face Lugar Boswell Thistle in McBookie League Two.

Paul Davies and Craig Gupwell’s men have never faced the Ayrshire side in a competitive fixture.

The Jaggy Bunnets were formed in 1878 as a senior football side but continued as a junior team after the war.

The Rosebank Park outfit were most successful during the 1950s.

During this time they reached the 1956 Scottish Junior Cup final at Hampden where they lost to Petershill.

Lugar have had their troubles over recent seasons, losing seven points in McBookie League One for fielding ineligible players.

They were relegated to League Two after finishing nine points adrift of Maybole at the bottom of the league.

Two points separate United and Lugar in the league with the Jaggy Bunnets winning a quarter of their league matches so far.

They have conceded 12 in their last five matches, while scoring six. They come into the weekend’s clash after beating Newmachar United 3-0 in the Scottish Junior Cup last weekend.
