EACH WEEK our man KEVIN CRAIGENS has examined our upcoming opponents. Today it’s Thorniewood for the second time in a week in the final game of the season…
THORNIEWOOD’S visit to Victoria Park is shaping up to be a David versus Goliath showdown.
Newmains United have a point to prove after losing 4-0 in the reverse fixture at Robertson Park last weekend.
That match was all but over by half-time after United folded at the back and conceded all four goals before the break.
They produced a spirited showing in the second half but by that stage the damage had been done. Both teams have played games in midweek since that clash.
Thorniewood lost 6-2 to promoted Lesmahagow as they suffered defensive woes of their own after scrambling together a makeshift back four.
Newmains hosted St Anthony’s and were put to the sword by the Govan side, who won their first away game in two months. That saw Newmains slip back to second-bottom spot on goal difference.
It means they now need to better what third-bottom Saltcoats Victoria do against promoted Lesmahagow if they’re to finish outside the bottom two.
Today’s visitors have scored 12 and conceded 15 in a run of two wins from five.
