EACH week our man in the know Kevin Craigens gives the lowdown on the team we’re facing next. This week’s it’s the first of a double dose of Thorniewood United….
BAD weather means Newmains face Thorniewood twice in the space of eight days.
The fixture storm is coming thick and fast for both sides as they squeeze in their rearranged games before the end of the season.
That will see United travel to Robertson Park this Saturday for their third-last fixture before ending their season with a visit from the Viewpark side a week later.
It’s a busy schedule for the side bossed by Paul Davies and Craig Gupwell, with a home game against St Anthony’s sandwiched between the two matches on Wednesday night.
Yet The Wood – sitting in eighth spot – have midweek matches with Lesmahagow AND Muirkirk to worry about as well.
Ahead of Saturday’s clash the home side have lost as many games in the league as they’ve won at Robertson Park.
The Wood’s last victory there was back in March when goals from Damon Welsh and Gary Stewart sealed the three points against Vale of Clyde.
Thorniewood have been big scorers in front of their own fans though, with 32 goals their tally so far. Stewart leads the way on 17 strikes, with Welsh four behind him.
