All systems go for Newmains players

NEWMAINS UNITED’S players are being put through their paces despite football being locked down.

The club have started using GPS systems in a bid to ensure their squad stay in shape for whenever the game gets going again.

United are due to take their place in the new West of Scotland League when the next campaign starts.

Co-managers Paul Davies and Craig Gupwell are using the downtime to put plans in place to make sure they’re ready for the fresh steup.

Davies said: “This week Craig and I spoke about getting the players back training and active.

“We also had a talk with our sports scientist Lauren Tait and as a result we’ve decided to use GPS systems.

“It means the coaches can get more accurate data on the players’ activities.

“The players can sync the data through their smartphones and watches and we can check their performance.”
