EACH week one of our eagle-eyed reporters takes a look at our upcoming opposition. This week KEVIN CRAIGENS runs the rule over the trip to the current table-toppers…
NEWMAINS have already made history this season – now they’ll look to put another record to bed this Saturday.
The side managed by Paul Davies and Craig Gupwell won three games in a row for the first time in over three years earlier this term.
This weekend they face a daunting trip to league leaders Lanark United – and they’ve not taken a point off them since January 2016.
The Yowes sit at the League Two summit after amassing 47 points thanks to 15 wins and two draws.
Colin Slater’s side have also netted 59 goals this term, meaning Newmains’ defence will need to be on their guard.
Lanark come into the weekend clash on an incredible run of 14 wins from their last 15 games. The only time they haven’t won was last weekend, when they drew with title rivals Lesmahagow. Lewis Hill netted their only goal.
But Lanark proved they are beatable when they lost 2-1 to Ashfield back in August.
The sides have clashed twice this season with Lanark boasting a 100 percent record, having beaten Newmains by five goals in the league cup section earlier in the season.
They followed that up with a league win in an exciting 5-2 thriller which saw Newmains had led 2-1.
Despite not having beaten Lanark in the league since the Yowes came into the division there is some hope for Newmains.
They might have lost 5-0 to Muirkirk last week – but the previous time they lost by four goals or more they bounced back with a win. Following the 4-0 drubbing from Carluke Rovers, Newmains saw off Annbank United.
McBookie odds:
Lanark United 1/14
