Newmains developing well after U20s join Lowland League

JOHN CAMPBELL is ready to get the conveyor belt of players running at Newmains United again.

The Victoria Park’s first team will play in the new West of Scotland league setup when football resumes.

That move also allowed the club’s Under-20s side to apply for a place in the Lowland Development League.

Their place was rubberstamped earlier this week – and academy boss Campbell has been busy adding starlets he feels can one day make it into the first team.

He will co-manage the side alongside Dean Beaton and coach Stuart Cooper.

Campbell said: “The Under-20s Lowland Development League offers tremendous opportunities for young players at Newmains United to showcase their talents and gain good experience.

“I expect it will be a tough, competitive league but, more importantly, the standards will be high on and off the pitch.

“It will be exciting to be part of it and it’s something myself, Dean and Stuart are looking forward to immensely. Our challenge is to ensure our team does Newmains proud and the players can use it as a platform from which to work towards the first team in the West of Scotland League.

“I’ve already been sounding out some good quality players, both locally and further afield. Now everything is official we can start building momentum and look forward to when we are able to get back playing again.”
