EACH week our reporter KEVIN CRAIGENS examines our upcoming opposition. This week it’s the side from Glasgow’s East End…
Newmains have shown they can beat the odds already this season - and they will be hoping to do the same again when they travel to face Vale of Clyde this Saturday.
The hosts have won four of their last five matches, losing only to Annbank earlier this month. The Tollcross team have also scored 18 and conceded seven in that spell.
Vale lie in sixth place in League Two after last weekend’s win 3-2 win at Forth Wanderers. Goals from Nicky Fraser, Lee Martin and Sam Donald earned the three points for the Tin Pail.
But Newmains can take confidence going into the clash after holding runaway league leaders Lanark United to a stalemate in the first half last time out.
Losing three goals after the break against a side without a defeat since August was nothing to be embarrassed about.
United have lost the last three fixtures between the sides but they can take great confidence from the fact they led 2-0 in the reverse fixture back in August.
Martin Hannaway and Willie McGlone grabbed the goals that day before Vale hit back to win 3-2.
Kick-off at Fullarton Park is 2pm.
