BREATHING SPACE have congratulated Bellshill Athletic on winning the first ever Breathing Space Cup.
Derek Wilson’s side topped the six-team Lanarkshire pre-season tournament organised by Newmains United.
The competition was supported by Breathing Space, Scotland’s mental health phone and web chat service.
Breathing Space national coordinator Tony McLaren said: “Congratulations to Bellshill Athletic and well done to all the teams supporting this initiative.
“It’s great to see these young men getting behind the message to open up when you’re feeling down and helping the community to be more aware of services such as Breathing Space.”
Forth Wanderers, Royal Albert, Lesmahagow and Carluke Rovers made up the group.
Newmains United chairman Ken Davies added: “The Breathing Space Cup proved to be a great success and provided an excellent pre-season challenge for all six teams.
“It was suitably competitive to prepare the sides for the forthcoming season, giving each club the opportunity for new signings and trialists to blend into their individual teams.
“Bellshill Athletic were worthy winners but there was a high level of competition throughout the period of the tournament and only in the final stages were the champions confirmed.
“We’d like to thank Breathing Space for their support and involvement and for providing the trophy which was presented to the winners.
“We hope the competition has aided their continual hard work in raising awareness about mental health issues throughout Scotland.
“It’s hoped that this can now become an annual competition and we wish the sides involved all the best for the new season which starts this Saturday.”
