Noble approach is way forward says Lewis

LEWIS NOBLE relished being Newmains’ wido last week – now he’s hoping to put in another streetwise display today.

He was handed a wing-back role against Carluke Rovers and netted as United kicked off pre-season with a 3-1 win.

Victory leaves the side bossed by Paul Davies and Craig Gupwell sitting top of the Breathing Space Cup table on goal difference.

Noble’s strike might have been a rare one but he’s looking for more of the same when United travel to Alliance Park this afternoon to face Bellshill Athletic on Match Day Two (kick-off 2pm).

He said: “I’m not really a goalscorer so it’s always good when they do come!

“I got a bit lucky but it ended up in the back of the net which is what matters.

“Playing as a wing-back definitely helps you to push up more and attack rather than just defending all game.

“It was an ideal start. Being the first time back in a while it was good for fitness as well.

“Carluke are a decent team so beating them is a good result.

“We should now be confident going into the next game. Hopefully it’ll be the same on Saturday again and we can get looking forward to the season.”
