BOTH Newmains United and Carluke Rovers can’t make it through to the next round of the League Cup.
But there’s no chance of tonight’s game being a dead rubber.
The local rivals go head to head at the John Cumming Stadium in the final section matches in Group 16 (kick-off 7pm).
A victory for either side won’t be enough to top the table as Lesmahagow and Lanark go toe-to-toe to qualify in tonight’s other clash.
But Rovers’ ascent to League One last term mean the sides are unlikely to clash again this season.
It won’t be easy for United, who sit bottom after losses to two other teams who were promoted last season in Lesmahagow and Lanark United.
Rovers are on two points after Monday’s 2-0 loss to The Gow followed a penalty shootout victory over The Yowes.
Derek Wilson’s side could contain former Victoria Park striker Paul Donaghy.
Paul Davies and Craig Gupwell’s side last visited the John Cumming Stadium in January when they were beaten 4-0.
But the draw earned at Victoria Park last October can give United confidence.
