The town of Dalry’s origins lie in textiles - but tomorrow Newmains will look to do the weaving through its club’s defence.

The long-awaited return of semi-professional football in Scotland finally arrives with United facing an away day against Dalry Thistle.

It’s been a turbulent time for all clubs involved at this level which has seen 14 drop out of the West of Scotland league set up.

But it’s hoped the new league setup will act as a watershed moment for the teams involved.

Merksworth Park will play host to the first game of the season as Dalry continue to celebrate their centenary year.

While United co-manager Craig Gupwell continues to pull the boots on, Dalry Thistle are headed by a player-manager in Gavin Friels.

He’s vastly experienced at this level and will be taking charge for his seventh straight season at the Ayrshire club.

Form is very much out the window for this one, although it will be a good opportunity for Newmains to show off their new recruits after a good pre-season.

Kick-off is 2pm with updates on the club’s Twitter feed.
