LANARK UNITED are nicknamed The Yowes thanks to the sheep their players once herded off their pitch.

But tomorrow Newmains will try to round up their opponents.

This should have been United’s first game at Victoria Park since March.

But a waterlogged pitch has seen the clash switched to the Wishaw Sports Centre instead.

While last week’s visit to Dalry Thistle failed to beat the weather, Lanark’s first fixture did survive the deluge.

But the goals rained in at the wrong end at Moors Park as they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Thorniewood United.

The result has made for a difficult start to an already challenging season.

Lanark, who are celebrating their centenary year, announced on Wednesday their boss Colin Slater had stepped down.

The club’s player of the year and current player-coach Hugh Kerr is set to take charge tomorrow, alongside midfielder Mark Haddow.

Kick-off is at 2pm.
